In 1967 six business travel agents founded the Guild of Business Travel Agents.
The change of name to the Guild of Travel Management Companies in 2005 reflected the way in which our members and the industry itself had transformed in the intervening years.
From the beginning the GTMC intended to have business travel represented in the corridors of power. The financial health of UK plc is dependent on the companies served by its members. The GTMC has used its members' daily exposure to corporate travellers' frustrations and preferences to influence policy and investment decisions.
As the EU began to exert increasing influence, the GTMC recognised that a presence in Brussels would soon become essential. Accordingly the GTMC played a leading role in the creation of the Guild of European Business Travel Agents (GEBTA).
