Not all improvements to transport infrastructure need cost billions

The GTMC is keen to promote the fact that one of the biggest concerns of the business traveller is to be as productive as possible during their journeys. This means that at airports, stations and on board various forms of transport they need sufficient space and broadband connectivity to minimise non-working time.

  • Air – it is essential that airport terminals are environments where all passengers can work. We recognise that while business lounges provide excellent facilities these are not universally accessed by business travellers. We would urge that new or refurbished terminals are made as conducive to working as possible.
  • Air & rail – to increase productivity business travellers in waiting areas should have access to power points and Wi-Fi connections.
  • Rail – mainline stations should be environments where the business traveller can work efficiently and effectively. Key to this is having appropriate areas for business travellers to hook up to Wi-Fi and access power points.
  • The ability to work through a journey also applies to being on board trains. New franchise deals should include provisions to ensure that business travellers have the essential connectivity and space to be productive.
