GBTA Appoints New Parliamentary Advisor

Mark Tami, MP for Alyn & Deeside has been appointed as the Guild of Business Travel Agents new parliamentary advisor.

He took his seat in the House of Commons following the general election in 2001 and is currently a member of the Select Committee on Northern Ireland. He is also secretary of the Associate Parliamentary Aerospace Group.

Prior to becoming an MP, Mark Tami was head of policy at AEEU and was closely involved in proposals to bring further Airbus construction work to Broughton.

He takes over the GBTA role from Tom Watson, MP who stepped down last year due to additional commitments in Westminster.

Mr Tami will advise the GBTA's executive council on parliamentary matters which are likely to impact on the GBTA membership and the business travel sector in general. These include, for example, taxation, airport and transport development, employment legislation and data privacy. He will attend selected executive council meetings and members' sessions during the course of the year.

The GBTA may also pass on any working party issues which it feels need further action or discussion within government.  In addition, the GBTA will look to Mr Tami for guidance on the appropriate governmental contacts to approach in relation to European legislative activity. Mark Tami will also facilitate GBTA events at Westminster designed to educate politicians as to the significance of business travel within the UK economy.

“We are delighted to welcome Mark Tami as our new parliamentary advisor,” said Philip Carlisle, chief executive, GBTA. “As an organisation, the GBTA is committed to representing the interests and requirements of the business travel market. To do that effectively, it is important that we have a link to parliament. Mr Tami will fulfil that role for us.”
