It seems that ever since there have been jobs in the travel industry the perception of ‘working in travel’ has been indelibly linked with the concept of sitting in a high street travel agency dealing with members of the public. While that is undoubtedly still the case for many, it is a shame that working in business, or corporate, travel has remained such a well-kept secret.
Business travel offers diverse career opportunities, a wide range of salaries & packages and roles which cover account management, supplier relations, customer support or IT and online service delivery. Another aspect which adds to the attraction for some is the fact that in many cases it is purely a five day ‘9 to 5’ week with ‘out-of-hours’ departments taking over at other times. This provides an alternative career option for those who may prefer less conventional working hours.
The GTMC has long championed the industry with its range of training programmes and is now offering a closer view of some of our members’ personal experiences with a range of case studies enabling prospective employees to more closely understand what can be possible.
Here you will find details of how some business travel staff have developed their careers.
